Friday assignment #2

Second,

Watch this video of Godin outlining the seven ways to become a linchpin.  Then leave a short response detailing which of the seven ways best fits you right now.

  1. The Über-Geek seems to work for me. I don't know anyone who can dig through a computer, find a problem, and fix it better than I can. Honestly, the only reason I didn't fix Jake's computer was because I didn't have a recovery drive to reset it off of, and the SSD in the computer was too small for a recovery partition.
As a small note, however, there are many things I do not know off hand, but in any such case, I know how to figure out what to do. (I think that was a point in Linchpin).

  2. I believe the way that best describes me is unique interface. I am really good talking to people and know lots of people and greet them. I can talk to anyone no matter what their personality.

  3. The method that applies to me is being good at what I do. One way I can do this is by multitasking. I'm a great multitasker, so I can achieve a lot of things at the same time. It contributes in making me good, although I will never be the donald bradmen of what I do. At least I can do my best and combine my ability to multitask with emotional work. That makes a good linchpin.

  4. I think I can handle doing quite a few things together, and I'm also pretty good at doing stuff so I think that can make me valuable. Also, I have deep knowledge of history.

  5. I think the best one that applies to me, at least in basketball, is deep domain knowledge. I understand the game of basketball really well, and I can use this knowledge to help my teammates succeed.

  6. The best way to describe me would be unique interface. Like the lady in the 7/11 video, I can remember mostly everyone's names. With the job that I have, it is important to do so. There are about 100 kids that come and go between the school year and summer Latchkey. I remember all of the kids names and something about them, so it is easy to talk to them.

  7. I think the one that best applies to me is deep domain knowledge, mainly for knees. I've been through two ACL tears so I've been somewhat forced to learn about it. This helps me because then I can help other people prevent ACL tears.

  8. I think the best that describes me, is deep domain knowledge. I know a lot about PCs, I've done my fair amount of troubleshooting friends computers. I have also done a lot of coding on my own, by trying to learn the basics of as many languages as possible before I go to college. I don't know anyone in this school who can actually code, without taking the computer programming classes. I have deep domain knowledge about video editing as well, having edited many youtube videos for myself, and my cousin. I am a true PC geek, but know nothing about apple.

  9. Unique interface is the one that best fits me. I can do the normal, "Hey, how's it going" or I can connect with that person and have an actual conversation with them. When I'm checking someone out at work, I can give them the usual employee thank you: "Thank you, have a good day/night". Or, I could say, "Thank you. Good luck hunting/fishing, let me know how it goes!" Which do you think would mean more to the customer? The generic example that everyone gets, or something that is unique to them?

  10. I'm not a huge fan of him saying we can't be the best at something (ex. the cricket guy). Why can't we over take someone? If we are shooting for the top, it's motivation. Isn't that a good thing?

  11. I would say unique interface best describes me best. Working at Hugo's I have a lot of people interaction and like Adam said, giving more than generic responses really connects with people.

  12. I think one that applies to me is unique interface, this is very important in my job and an any business. I believe that excellent customer service and providing a good product is the key to a successful business. If you can't relate to the customer and live by the rule that the customer is always right, you will be a poor businessman. I try to follow these things and give the customer the best experience possible and always try to make something right for the customer.

  13. I think the concept of being able to manage projects of great complexity probably suits me the best. None of them suit me as well I would like, but I'm guessing this one is as close as it's going to get. I'm pretty good at handling stressful projects and the like when they are thrust upon me. They give me somewhat of a challenge that I wouldn't have had and a chance to solve something.

  14. I believe that I fit into the Special kind of creativity category, because I tend to think on the opposite sides of problems then other people and tend to go in different ways to get the same answers as them. I have always wanted to be an inventor and have gotten really good at picturing and designing things in my head, kind of like reading a great book where you almost began to feel like you have become part of the story. So at least in these aspects I fit into the Special kind of creativity category.

  15. I think the concept of being able to manage projects of great complexity fits me best. At my job, it can get very busy with people and then something can go wrong with a machine. I have to be able to calmly help the people around me and fix the machine at the same time. Of course it is stressful, but I can persevere and put a smile on the customer's face while fixing a problem.

  16. I think unique interface best describes me because I've always been told that I'm good with people. I try to talk to everyone and make everyone's day better and that they should come before me.

  17. I think the concept that applies to me is unique interface. My passion is helping people, so I really like when I can get someone to smile. I always look forward to making someones day. I love talking to the people that I know need the extra compliment in their day. When I make someone happy, it makes my day. For example, when I am pumping gas at Cenex and there is only one car that's a fill, I normally try to clean their windshields since I have the time to do so. Also because I know if I was the customer, I would appreciate it if the employee cleaned my windshield . . . it's one less thing that they have to worry about!

  18. I think the category I fit into best is the one about being able to handle complex situations. Of course, I get stressed, but my job and some of the harder classes I have taken have taught me how to better deal with stress and actually get something done. I've learned to stay pretty calm in high stress situations, because I've realized that freaking out only makes things worse. I've actually started enjoying complex or stressful projects because I love the feeling I get when it's all over and I realized I made it through.

  19. I think the concept that best describes in is being able to manage projects of great complexity. At first when I am faced with a large project I get a bit overwhelmed, but I have learned to take things in stride. Also, I have learned how to manage my time very well. It is not that I deal with many "complex projects", but I am very busy with many different things, so that makes my life complex. I do not get nearly as stressed out as I used to. I have learned how to deal with many different things and that will greatly help me be successful in college!

  20. I think when he talks about a person as someone who brings a special kind've creativity describes me the best. I try my hardest to stay as creative as possible even if it's just involving going through out my day. The most important part though, is sharing that creativity with others and that is what I need to try and do more of.

  21. Not to be like everyone else, but I also think the unique interface describes me best. I always try to connect with customers and have a conversation, rather than just being an average waitress. I think it's more fun for people to have a meal when they're comfortable with the waitress rather than if she's just awkwardly bringing their food and saying thanks for coming.

  22. Unfortunately, none of these really called out to me. After watching it a couple times the ones that I've narrowed it down to that kind of describe me are the person who can handle complexity or the person who can inspire others. I have a super busy school schedule and life schedule (EVERYTHING outside of school) so I've had to learn how to deal with complex situations. Lately, I haven't been doing that well, so I don't know if that one is really me. The inspiring one could work too. I can inspire others to follow what I do, but I don't see myself as the type who everyone wants to follow. People usually listen to me and do as I ask, especially because I don't ask much. I like to think that swimming is one place that I inspire others. I think the girls respect me and I like to think that I inspire them to work hard.
